Citizen Perspective on Digital Democracy

Welcome to the INNOVADE Digital Democracy Survey! We appreciate your time and interest in this study.   

 

Purpose & Motivation 

This research is part of the ongoing INNOVADE project. The project is funded by the European Commission under the Horizon Europe funding programme, grant agreement number 101178306. You can learn more about INNOVADE at: https://innovade-democracy.eu/ 

Your answers will inform the release of a municipal participation app and an overarching digital democracy app framework. We are assessing the current state of local e-democracy, gathering design input, and seeking ways to strengthen participation. Results will be aggregated and anonymised before public reporting to the two pilot municipalities and the wider public. 

 

What Participation Involves 

You will answer multiple-choice questions, rate statements on short Likert scales, and leave open-text comment. The survey takes approximately 15-20 minutes and works on any smartphone, tablet, or computer. 

 

Voluntary Nature & Withdrawal 

Your participation is entirely voluntary. You may quit at any time by closing this browser tab before submitting. Once submitted, your data cannot be linked back to you, so withdrawal afterward is impossible. 

  

Potential Risks & Benefits 

Some questions about politics might feel uncomfortable. However, your participation can increase your sense of political efficacy and help deliver better local digital services.

Data Protection Information Notice 

Pursuant to art. 13 of the regulation (EU) 2016/679 (general data protection regulation – “GDPR”), we provide you with the following information on the processing (the “Processing”) of your personal data (the “Data”) in the context of the survey (the “Survey”). 

1. Identity and contact details of the controller (the “Controller”). 

The controller is the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence, which can be contacted via e-mail at the following address: info@dfki.de. 

2. Contact details of the data protection officer (the “DPO”).

3. Purposes of the Processing for which the Data are intended and legal basis for the Processing 

The purpose of the Processing is the performance of research activity in the context of the INNOVADE project, funded by the European Union. Further information on INNOVADE can be retrieved at the official website https://innovade-democracy.eu/. The legal basis of the Processing is your consent. 

4. Categories of recipients of the Data. 

The Data can be shared with other partners of the INNOVADE consortium and providers of services related to the pursuit of the above-described purposes. 

5. Period for which the Data will be saved. 

The Data will be pseudonymized and aggregated after their collection and then stored for up to five years after the completion of the Survey. 

6. Your data protection rights. 

By contacting the Controller and/or the DPO, you have the right to request from the Controller access to and rectification or erasure of the Data or restriction of Processing or to object to Processing as well as the right to data portability. 

Also, you have the right to withdraw your consent to the Processing at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of Processing based on consent before its withdrawal; 

Finally, you have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority.
